Age is just a number for Vijaya Ramesh

A resident of Gokulam third stage in city, 64-year-old Vijaya Ramesh, wife of ex-Serviceman Ramesh, has won bronze medal in Javelin-Throw at State-level Masters Games held in Mangaluru in November.

Winner of more than 100 medals in the State, National and International Athletic Meet, Vijaya Ramesh is currently the President of Mysuru Masters Games Association as well as Vice-President of Karnataka State Committee of Masters Games and is also a Member of the Committee for ex-servicemen. She has a son, Vinay Nag and a daughter, Akshata Nag.

As a child, Vijaya Ramesh loved sports. While studying 4th standard in St. Joseph’s Convent in Mandya, she started participating in kho-kho, high-jump, long-jump, discus-throw and relay contests.  In her 35-year sports career, she has bagged 40 gold, 45 silver and 30 bronze medals in numerous State and National-level Athletic Meets as well as 16 medals in International Athletic Meets.

Members of Mysuru Masters Games Association, including Vijaya Ramesh, A.C. Subbaiah, Boregowda, Cheluvegowda, Harish, Ganapati, Pemmaiah, Saroja, Nagendra, Shashikala, Shalini, Veena, Ramamani, Bharati V. Shiror, Veda, Raghavendra, Shivappa, Nagamma, Basavaraju and Kusama, had participated in State-level Masters Games held in Mangaluru in November and have bagged 20 gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze medals.

MEDALS WON

Vijaya Ramesh has bagged Silver medal in 80 mts hurdles in a Sports Meet held in Thailand (1995), Gold medal in hurdles and Silver medal in high-jump during Asian Championship in China (1997), Gold in 80 mts hurdles and Silver in high-jump in Malaysia (1999), Gold in high-jump in Singapore (2002), Gold in 80 mts hurdles, high-jump, long-jump, 100×4 relay in Malaysia (2004), Gold in high-jump in Sri Lanka (2006), Gold in high-jump in Thailand (2008), Bronze in high-jump in Bangkok (2009), Gold in javelin-throw in Sri Lanka (2011), Gold in shot-put and Silver in discus-throw in Singapore (2017), Gold in javelin-throw as well as silver in discus-throw and high-jump in Sri Lanka (2019) and secured 14th place in World Championship held in France in the year 2013.

She has also represented India in 2010 World Championship in United States of America (USA) as well as Sports Meet held in Australia in 2015.

She also participated in numerous National-level Sports Meets held in Kanpur, Nagpur, Chandigarh, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolar, Hosakote and Punjab.
