Age is no barrier for achieving goals: Mountaineer Dr. Usha Hegde

Mysuru:  A person with perseverance and determination can achieve the desired goal irrespective of age, said Dr. Usha Hegde, who rose to fame after successfully summiting the Mount Everest recently.

Speaking after inaugurating the cultural, literary and sports activities of JSS PU College for Women in the college premises here recently, she said determination and perseverance were the two most important factors that one should possess to achieve their goals.

Adding that youths must be determined towards realising their dreams, Dr. Usha Hegde said that everyone should work towards showcasing their talents to the society and make fullest use of given opportunity.

“Having come from a rural background, I shifted to the city with an aim to reach my goal. My father has been an inspiration for me to fulfill my dreams. Working hard with devotion and determination will definitely fetch good results one day. It is difficult for women to get opportunities and recognition comes only after you reach great heights,” said Dr. Usha who added that she had to work hard for three years to reach the top of Mt. Everest.

NIE Physical Education Director Dr. Kavya, who spoke on the occasion, said while education was the important factor in everyone’s life, involving in sports would help in physical and mental development.

JSS College Principal M.P. Rajeshwari, Department of Physical Education Assistant Director B. Niranjana Murthy, Director Shivakumar, Department of Commerce Head V.S. Shewtha, Dean (Academics) Rechanna, Librarian Manjunath, Biology Lecturer M.N. Pushpalatha and others were present.
