April 24, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Adding one more feather to its cap, the city’s All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) has earned the recognition of World Health Organisation (WHO).

AIISH has bagged the Certificate of Membership of World Hearing Forum coming under WHO. With this honour, AIISH has joined the list of a very few Indian Institutions which have earned this prestigious membership. The duration of the membership is two years.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, AIISH Director Dr. M. Pushpavathi said that this is a great honour and  moment of pride for the Institute. Noting that this honour is a lot of inspiration for the Institute to grow big further, she said that she had taken part in a WHO Meet held at Geneva in Switzerland in 2019, during which she had made a presentation on the functioning and activities of the Institute.

Upon returning to India, she applied for membership, which application has been honoured by the WHO, Dr. Pushpavathi said and added that the recognition will help AIISH to interact  and exchange information  with globally renowned Institutions on issues concerning hearing impairment and  speech disorders.

Asserting that AIISH got the recognition as it met the standards set by WHO, she said AIISH’s activities for eradication of hearing impairment, better facilities and maintenance of transparency in financial spending, all came into count for the prestigious WHO membership.

She said the WHO has also issued a Certificate to AIISH for conducting various activities spread over 45 days during World Hearing Day celebrations.
