Ajjikuttira Shanthu Appaiah passes away

Mysuru: Senior Congress leader and leader of Cooperative Movement in Kodagu, Ajjikuttira Shanthu Appaiah passed away at a private hospital in city yesterday. He was 69 and leaves behind his wife, a son, two daughters and a host of relatives and friends.

Shanthu is the son of A.N. Somaiah, former MLC from Kodagu and was the President of Kodagu JD(S) for several years and had strived for the growth of the party from grassroot level.

As the Director of District Co-operative Bank, he had led the Co-operative Movement in Kodagu and was the reason for many farmers benefiting from loans and other schemes.

Shanthu Appaiah was the staunch follower of former Law Minister M.C. Nanaiah and when the latter joined Congress, Shanthu followed him to the party.
