Akka Mahadevi & Basava Jayanti programmes

Mysuru:  Marking Akka Mahadevi Jayanti and Basava Jayanti, functions have been organised by Jayanti and Utsava Samithi of Sri Hosmutt, Mysuru, at Nataraja Sabha Bhavana in Agrahara on May 5 and May 6 respectively.

The programme commences tomorrow at 7 am with 24th Punyaradhane of Sri Gurushanta Swamiji followed by Linga Deeksha to Lingayat girls under the supervision of Sri Sambasadashiva Swamiji of Madalli Mutt.

A line sketch (of Basavanna) colouring contest will be held for students from 1st standard to PUC at 10 am. The evening stage programme at 6 pm will be presided over by poetess Dr. Latha Rajashekar which also features a seminar on Akka Mahadevi Vachanas.

The Basava Jayanti programme on May 6 would be inaugurated at 10.30 am by retired Professor of UoM Prof. Shubha Chandra. Lectures and painting expo on Basavanna and his Vachanas are also organised.

At 6.30 pm, a procession with portraits of Akka Mahadevi and Basavanna is organised to be launched by Sri Siddamalla Swamiji of Neelakanteshwara Mutt.

On both the days at 5.30 pm, Vachana Gayana by Chudamani and troupe has been arranged, according to a press release.

Desi sports on May 5

As part of Basava Jayanti celebrations, Mysuru Veerashaiva Sajjana Sangha will be hosting a Desi Sports event at Kanti Mallanna Kalyana Mandira at 10.30 am tomorrow (May 5).

The Desi Games include carom, chess, pagade, chowkabara and drawing. The contest is open for both men  and women.

Basava Jayanti

The Sangha will celebrate Basava Jayanti by conducting Rudrabhisheka, Sahasra Bilvarchane, Mahamangalarathi and other rituals at 7 am on May 7 at Kanti Mallama Kalyana Mandira.

Also, meritorious students of Veerashaiva community who have scored high marks in SSLC and PUC (2018-19) will be presented Pratibha Puraskar at a programme to take place at the Mandira on May 12. For details, contact Mob: 99161-55453 or 94486-09421.
