All pervasive encroachments

October 2, 2023

Sir,

It is common knowledge that many commercial establishments make use of the footpaths in front of their shops for various purposes including parking of vehicles. Each such instance has to be highlighted separately so that the focus of the encroachment is not lost.

One such commercial establishment is located on the Guest House road in Nazarbad. This establishment has very conveniently appropriated the footpath in front of the establishment for parking of vehicles and other purposes.

Vehicles are also parked on the road in front of the entry to the establishment. The pedestrians are forced to walk almost on the middle of the busy road risking their lives. It also needs to be checked if the building in which the establishment is located satisfies the set-back rule.

Another point that needs to be added here is that the portion of the Guest House road from the Hardinge Circle till Nazarbad main road, a stretch of about 200 metres, is supposed to be one-way, but one finds blatant violation of this rule throughout the day and to the best of my knowledge, no cases are being booked.

The same is the case with the Nazarbad main road, two portions of which are supposed to be one-ways and the rule finds no takers. If cases are booked for violation of the one-way rule hundreds of cases can be booked every day.

Such violations of one-way rule occurs at other places also and they have to be pointed out each one of them independently.

If people do not respect the one-way rule and the rule cannot also be enforced by the authorities, why have the rule at all?
