Marking International Women’s Day in SWR, Mysuru Division
Mysore/Mysuru: On International Women’s Day yesterday, the Mysuru Division of South Western Railway hosted a unique event commemorating women’s achievement, wherein the Rajya Rani Express was expertly operated by an all-women crew on the route between Mysuru and Bengaluru. This initiative stands as a tribute to the empowerment of women and the pursuit of gender equality within the Indian Railways.
The all-women crew, consisting of Lady Loco Pilot G. Shreesha, Assistant Loco Pilot G. Sona, Train Manager Priyadarshini, lady Ticket Examiners and Railway Police Force (RPF) Escort, flawlessly managed the operations of the Rajya Rani Express, showcasing their expertise and commitment.
The train was flagged off from the Mysuru City Railway Station by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the SWR Mysuru Division Shilpi Agarwal to coincide with the 2024 Women’s Day theme, ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ resonated deeply. The event focused on fostering economic empowerment and advocating for inclusivity to propel tangible advancements for women in the workforce.
The overarching campaign theme, ‘Inspire Inclusion’, encapsulated the spirit of the occasion, highlighting the indispensable role of women in shaping the future of the Indian Railways. The DRM, accompanied by members of the South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation, distributed rosebuds and toffees to passengers, symbolising appreciation and solidarity.
Addressing the gathering, Shilpi Agarwal underscored the significance of acknowledging and supporting women within the Indian Railways to drive positive transformations and cultivate a more inclusive and equitable work environment, thereby championing the cause of women’s empowerment within the Railways.
Additional Divisional Railway Managers E. Vijaya and Vinayak Naik, Senior Divisional Operations Manager Ankita Verma, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager J. Lohiteshwara, Senior Divisional Personnel Officer Vishnu Gouda, members of the South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation as well as other senior officers and staff were present during the flagging-off ceremony.
