Alleged assault on advocate by Cops: Day-2 – Advocates stage protest in front of Nazarbad Police Station

January 23, 2018

Mysuru: Hundreds of Advocates, under the banner of Mysuru Bar Association, who had staged a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust opposite Law Courts Complex here yesterday, staged a protest in front of Nazarbad Police Station this morning.

The advocates are protesting against Nazarbad Police for allegedly assaulting advocate and BJP Youth Wing President Gokul Govardhan, who had visited the Police Station on Sunday evening to lodge a complaint in connection with the illegal activities going on in a Government School premises.

The advocates, numbering about 200, led by Mysuru Bar Association President Ramamurthy staged a protest in front of the Police Station demanding immediate suspension of Nazarbad SI Yellalingappa.

Traffic came to a standstill as the advocates parked their vehicles at the entrance of Bannur Road, Vasanth Mahal Road, Nazarbad Main Road and Chamundi Vihar Stadium Road, thus blocking them.

DCP N. Vishnuvardhana, who arrived at the spot, tried to pacify the agitating, by telling them that an enquiry will be held and action would be taken by  tomorrow evening.

But the advocates, who were not convinced, demanded that Nazarbad SI Yellalingappa be suspended immediately and began to shout slogans against the Police. The advocates have even erected a shamiyana, opposite to the Police Station, where they are staging a protest.

The protest was underway when we went to the press.
