Alleged dowry harassment, woman commits suicide

Mysuru: Depressed over frequent harassment for dowry, a woman committed suicide by hanging self at her house in Muneshwara Nagar here on Sunday. The deceased is Shwetha (27), wife of Madesh of Muneshwaranagar. Madesh had married Shwetha on June 1, 2015 and Shwetha’s family had given cash and gold ornaments as dowry at the time of marriage.

Not satisfied with this, Shwetha’s husband and his family members were allegedly harassing her (Shwetha) both mentally and physically to get more dowry from her parents frequently.

Depressed over this, Shwetha on Sunday afternoon committed suicide by hanging self with a veil to the iron pipe fixed to the asbestos sheet roof of the house, according to the complaint lodged by Shwetha’s mother Rathnamma.

In her complaint, Rathnamma has urged the Police to take action against her son-in-law Madesh, his family members Manjulamma, Sarojamma and Siddaraju, holding them responsible for her daughter’s death.

Udayagiri Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
