Alleged dowry harassment: Woman lodges complaint against husband, his acquaintance and sons

May 16, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: A woman, alleging mental and physical harassment by her husband, his acquaintance and two sons of her husband’s acquaintance who were torturing her to get dowry, has lodged a complaint at the Women’s Police Station against them.

The woman, who has lodged the complaint, is 35-year-old Shashikala, a resident of Vivekanandanagar and her husband is 42-year-old H.C. Somashekar.

In her complaint, Shashikala has stated that she was given in marriage to Somashekar on June 30, 2002 and the couple have two sons. The couple and the children were residing at a house in Ramakrishnanagar.

She has further stated that after some days, a 50-year-old woman and her two sons aged 30 and 34 years came to the house and began staying there. When she enquired about them with her husband, he told her that he had married the woman.

A driver by profession, Somashekar had taken all the gold ornaments of Shashikala and had pledged them to buy a bus of his own. Pointing out that Somashekar was not providing financial help to run the family, Shashikala, in her complaint, has stated that Somashekar, along with the woman and her two sons (both drivers), were harassing her to get more dowry as they had to pay the instalments for the bus Somashekar had purchased and threatened of killing her (Shashikala) and her two sons if she fails to bring money from her parents house.

Police personnel at the Women’s Police Station, who have registered a case, are investigating.
