Ambergris smuggling: Two arrested in Kollegal

Kollegal: CID Forest Mobile Squad personnel have arrested two persons on charges of smuggling ambergris (whale vomit) and have seized 3.100 kg ambergris, Maruti Alto car, two mobile phones and Rs. 5,470 cash from the accused.

Those arrested are 49-year-old Anand Devadiga and 49-year-old Babu Appanna Naika of Shiraali village in Bhatkal taluk of Karwar district.

The accused were smuggling the whale vomit from Mysuru to Tamil Nadu in the Maruti Alto car (KA-20-P-6988).  Forest personnel, who intercepted the car on Tagarapura village Main Road, arrested the accused, who have been remanded to judicial custody.

CID Forest Mobile Squad Sub-Inspector Vijayaraj, Head Constables Basavaraju, Ramachandra, Shankar and Swamy, driver Prabhakar and Constable Basavaraju took part in the nabbing and seizing operation.
