Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan

Mysuru: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus, participated in the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed students across the country through a live virtual interaction.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was among the ten Universities selected nationwide to connect directly with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the Mysuru campus was one of the University’s seven campuses privileged to be part of this initiative.

PM Modi called upon the youths to lead the movement towards a drug-free India, emphasising that a Viksit Bharat can only be built through a healthy, confident and responsible younger generation. He urged citizens to transform the campaign into a collective social movement through sustained awareness and community participation.

C. Mallick, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mysuru, who was the chief guest, highlighted that drug trafficking is one of the largest forms of organised crime worldwide, next only to arms trafficking and human trafficking.

Explaining the significance of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, he noted that while certain narcotic substances have legitimate medicinal uses under regulated conditions, their misuse poses a serious threat to individuals, families and society.

He observed that the youths are increasingly becoming the primary targets of drug mafias and stressed that protecting the younger generation is vital to safeguarding the nation’s future.

Emphasising that the fight against drug abuse requires collective responsibility, Mallick remarked that law enforcement agencies alone cannot eradicate the menace. Governments, educational institutions, parents and young citizens must work together to create a drug-free society.

Reinforcing the message “Refuse first time, refuse every time,” he encouraged students to become ambassadors of change and highlighted initiatives such as ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,’ Karnataka’s ‘Beda Bro’ campaign, the ‘RISE Abhiyaan’ (Refuse, Inform, Support, Empower) and the monthly NCORD programmes that promote prevention and rehabilitation.
