An alluring Angklung concert at Ganapathy Ashrama

Mysuru:  The ongoing  20th Brahmotsava of Sri Datta Venkateshwaraswamy Kshetra, 21st anniversary of Nada Mantapa and 77th birthday celebrations of Sri Swamiji at Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama on Ooty Road featured a unique Angklung concert by Dr. H.S. Anasuya Kulkarni and troupe on May 22. Compositions of Sri Ganapathy Swamiji and other traditional songs were played on 13 Angklungs, a rare Indonesian bamboo instrument.

The concert began with ‘Pahi Pahi Gajanana’ followed by ‘Jyothi Velimgide’, ‘Bhaja bhaja Dattam’, ‘Kalikam’, ‘Palaya mahima’ and other songs all composed by the Swamiji. They were followed by an Indonesian song ‘Hala halo byandang, Purandaradasa’s ‘Bhagyada Lakshmi baaramma’, several folk songs and bhajans.

The ensemble of Angklungs was supported by B.N. Ramesh on mridanga, Amogh on violin, Raghunanadan and Haricharan on ghata. Sri Ganapathy Swamiji and Junior Pontiff Sri Datta Vijayanandatheertha Swamiji graced the occasion.
