An appeal to Nanjangud Civic Body

March 13, 2022

Sir,

Through this column I wish to apprise the Civic Body in the temple town of Nanjangud on the worst state of some of the thoroughfares in the very heart of the town. The (Nehru) Circle right opposite the City Municipal Office adjacent to the Railway bridge, besides being already narrow, is always flooded with pedestrians, stray animals and abnormal vehicle movements from dawn to dusk, not to say of the innumerable footpath vendors who occupy almost half the road on both the sides.

Few yards away, the Railway Station, a 5-entry gateway (!) adds on to the misery with a sharp hairpin bend from the Municipal road side to enter the under-bridge sloping down heavily.

Situation turns worst during arrival/ departure of trains, with autorickshaws lining up haphazardly all over. Also, after the new bus stand started (close to Railway Station), all buses compulsorily move in and out on this stretch, making it a hellish experience to pass through. No doubt the road that connects Nehru Circle with R.P. Road is widened now, but it is unable to contain the unimaginable onslaught of vehicular traffic.

Next eyesore is the sole Railway gate on the R.P. Road opposite Bhargavi theatre, where cement slabs embedded along the track have come up, forcing two-wheeler riders to get down and walk past the gate.

Will the authorities take note and initiate remedial measures at the earliest?
