Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysore School of Architecture (MSA) and the Mysore School of Design (MSD) recently hosted “A Day to Explore Your Future, Creative Calling” an inspiring event designed to encourage creativity and self-expression among students.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, and the Department of Pre-University Education at the institution’s campus on Dattagalli Ring Road.
Inaugurating the event, J.N. Prashanth, Managing Trustee of MSA and MSD, emphasised the importance of a natural approach to education. “Children should be allowed to be children. Living in harmony with nature is essential for human well-being,” he stated.
Highlighting the institution’s commitment since its inception in 2014, he noted that the school prioritises high-quality education backed by excellent infrastructure and a dedicated, expert faculty.
“Painting holds a significant place in the world of emotions. It is a powerful tool to nurture a student’s latent potential. In today’s world, we focus too heavily on stimulating the brain alone. We must provide equal opportunity for the rest of our senses to thrive. If we provide children with the right materials and creative freedom, it acts as a platform for their hidden talents to unfold,” he said.
A Community of Support
Dr. K.V. Lakshmidevi, Trustee of L.K. Memorial Charitable Trust, lauded the institution for its inclusivity, mentioning that the school provides tuition concessions to students in need.
“We operate here like a family, and the success of this institution is a testament to the tireless efforts of our faculty and staff,” she said.
Dr. Lakshmidevi also spoke on the essence of art, remarking that “Art and humanity are two sides of the same coin. In today’s world, innovation is key. Whether through painting, clay modelling, or other artistic mediums, we must encourage students to learn and create.”
A Day of Creative Exploration
The event saw enthusiastic participation by students from different schools across Mysuru, immersed themselves in various creative activities. Attendees were seen transforming blank sheets into artistic expressions using water colours, crayons, and sketch pens.
Beyond traditional painting, the workshop included diverse creative tasks such as caricature drawing, lantern making, and bridge construction, showcasing the students’ ingenuity and technical interest.
Dr. H.S. Champa, Director and Dean of MSA expressing her satisfaction said: “This provided a wonderful platform for the students and gives us an opportunity to host such competitions periodically; it significantly boosts student creativity. It is also heartening to see parents actively supporting the growth and development of students and to choose their passionate profession.”
During the event, the quarterly newsletter ‘MSA Nudi’ of the Mysore School of Architecture and Design was officially released. Attractive trophies and prizes were distributed to winners of creative competitions and workshops.
The panel discussion ‘The Dialogue-Beyond School’ by the panellists H. Gayatri Padmam, Kavita Shastri and Raja Arjun who represented Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID), Bangalore shared their professional journey through their projects and advised the students to keep up the energy and to learn through practical knowledge.
