‘Ancient Indian History should be studied Chronologically’

Mysuru:  Oriental Research Institute (ORI) and Department of History of Mahajana First Grade College had organised a lecture and interaction on ‘Historical and Political Analysis in Kautilyana Arthashastra’ at the college premises in Jayalakshmipuram here recently.

Inaugurating the programme,  former Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit University Dr. Mallepuram G. Venkatesh opined that to understand the grandeur of ancient India, one should first have an idea of the then style of agriculture, living pattern, formation of cities and concept of warfare.

He contended that history can be viewed through various angles and added that Indian History should be studied chronologically. 

He opined that to understand ancient Indian History one should read Kautilya’s Arthashastra, Bharatha’s Natyashastra and Vatsayana’s Kamasutra which together throw light on all aspects of life.

Sanskrit Scholar Dr. R.N. Nagaraj delivered a lecture on Kautilyana Arthashastra.

Oriental Research Institute Director Dr. S. Shivarajapa delivered the keynote address. Dr. T. Vijayalakshmi Muralidhar presided. College Principal Dr. S. Venkatarama, HoD of History Dr. H. Sridhar and others were present.
