Anikethana Road, a nightmare for pedestrians in the evening

August 1, 2023

Sir,

Come evening hours, the stretch of Anikethana Road in Kuvempunagar from Cauvery College to Gnanaganga School turns into a nightmare for pedestrians.

The huge number of students attending the nearby Coaching Centre and the customers of the popular Gobi Centre together park their two-wheelers and cars on BOTH  sides of the road dangerously and haphazardly.

The footpath on one side is too narrow and is, in any case, completely broken up and unusable while the relatively wider footpath on the other side is hogged by the Gobi Centre and many other eating joints doing business there.

The pedestrian has therefore to negotiate his way through whatever little space is left on the road by the parked vehicles. This is dangerous and unacceptable.

This has been going on for a long time now and I am shocked how our Corporator hasn’t done anything to remedy things. There should be a complete ban on car parking during evening hours and the two-wheelers should be allowed to park only on one side (opposite to the Gobi Centre) so that the crowding of customers along with their parked vehicles do not monopolise road space completely.

Meanwhile, would it be asking too much of our Corporator to get the footpaths repaired and make them pedestrian-friendly?
