Mysuru: Trainees at Daksha Skill Development Centre, an initiative of Mysore District Parents’ Association for Empowering Developmentally Disabled (MDPAEDD), celebrated its first anniversary on June 20.  

On the occasion, parents shared positive changes they had observed in their wards over the past year. 

Komala Mahesh thanked Veena for guiding her son, Vivek, to clear SSLC exam, describing it as a proud milestone. She mentioned that the family had recently relocated from Saragur, H.D. Kote after learning about services offered by MDPAEDD. 

Jyothi highlighted the improvement in her son Sharath Kini’s social skills and interaction. 

G.R. Vishwanath, father of Mayur, an autistic young man, said that Mayur had remained at home with little engagement for ten years. Since joining Daksha, he has shown improvement in eye contact and interaction. 

Sasikala Kumar said Daksha had been a welcome relief for her son Srivatsa following the untimely demise of his father. She shared how Daksha had helped him regain confidence. 

Ajit Bharathan, father of Amar, a young man with autism, also spoke about the positive impact Daksha has had on his son. 

Nagaraj shared the story of his daughter, Sowmya Shree, a young woman with an intellectual disability and mother of a 13-year-old daughter studying in Class 7.  

Having gone through a difficult phase in her personal life, Sowmya Shree was initially reluctant to attend Daksha. He said Daksha has helped restore her confidence, improved her social interaction and given her a renewed sense of purpose. 

Parents also appreciated Geetha for her voluntary service and constant support to the trainees.
