Mysuru/Mysore: Mysore Physicians Medical and Research Trust (MPMRT) was started in 2005 by members of Association of Physicians of India (API). The Trust is conducting Annual Updates regularly. This year’s Update being the 16th one was conducted between Jan.31 and Feb.2 at Sri Rajendra Centenary auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru.
In addition to regular PG update programmes, MPMRT is engaged in supporting research in relevant fields. MPMRT assists members in conducting Research and funds totalling Rs. 15 lakh has been disbursed to various applicants so far. MPMRT also supports academic programmes and workshops conducted by various academic bodies and institutions.
Dr. Surinder Singh, Vice- Chancellor of JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), inaugurated the MPMRT Annual Medicine Update. He stressed the importance of regular updating of knowledge for doctors as the advances in Medicine are taking place rapidly. He also opined that learning through the learned and experienced academicians is more important than knowledge from internet or books.
The best way of accumulating knowledge and skill is through live case discussion, problem solving sessions and hands-on experience, he said and appreciated the efforts of MPMRT in supporting research and academics.
During the inaugural function, gold medal was awarded to Dr. D. Vasudha, MBBS final year student from MMC&RI for securing highest marks in Medicine in MBBS exam 2019 of RGUHS University. Dr. Y.N.I. Anand, senior doctor, the donor representative of 1966 batch alumni of MMC, who instituted the gold medal, was also present.
Dr. C.D. Sreenivasa Murthy, Chairman of MPMRT, who presided, explained the clear objectives of the Trust.
Others present during the inaugural programme were: Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa – Principal of JSS Medical College & Secretary of MPMRT; Dr. Bhanu Kumar – Chairman, API Mysore chapter; Dr. Laxminarayana- Vice-Chairman of MPMRT; Dr. M. Srinivasa – Treasurer of MPMRT; Dr. B.J. Subhash Chandra – HoD of Medicine at JSS Medical College; Dr.Inbanathan – HoD of Medicine at MMC&RI and Dr.Vasudev Nayak, Professor of Medicine at Adichunchanagiri Medical College.
The 3-day Annual Meet for PG students in Medicine and allied subjects and Practitioners was attended by over 350 delegates from all over Karnataka. Lectures on various current topics in Clinical medicine, Geriatrics, Emergency Medicine, Diabetes were delivered by senior faculty from various Colleges and Hospitals. A total of 5 Orations were delivered by senior academicians in Internal Medicine.
Clinico-Pathological Conference (CPC) and a Medical Quiz for interns were the other highlights of this Update.
