Mysore/Mysuru: Prof. B.V. Sharma, Director of the Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI) in Kolkata, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, paid a visit to the Anthropological Survey of India, Southern Regional Centre, Mysuru.
This visit marked Prof. Sharma’s inaugural visit to the Southern Regional Centre in Mysuru since assuming his role as the Director of AnSI, Kolkata. Prior to his current position, Prof. Sharma held the positions of Head of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Hyderabad and Director of the Centre for Integrated Studies at the same institution.
During his visit on Sept.15, Prof. Sharma received a warm welcome from AnSI researchers, scientists and staff members.
His primary areas of interest encompass anthropology of health and illness, ethnomedicine, community participation in development, educational anthropology, village studies, and research on indigenous communities. A notable highlight of the visit was a roundtable discussion involving AnSI researchers to explore forthcoming projects and research initiatives.
The visit concluded with an optimistic outlook, aiming to bolster AnSI’s connections with local research organisations and Universities. This collaboration is intended to foster more research partnerships and fieldwork opportunities, enabling a deeper comprehension of the rich and varied cultures and traditions among India’s multi-ethnic population.
