Raids include unauthorised LPG filling units in Mysuru: Food Joint Director

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Food and Civil Supplies has seized a total of 48 LPG cylinders during anti-hoarding drives conducted at various locations across Mysuru district, said Joint Director of the Department Manteswamy.

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, he said the Department has been closely monitoring illegal hoarding of LPG cylinders and unauthorised LPG filling units.

“We have been keeping an eye on those involved in hoarding LPG cylinders and running illegal LPG filling units. Several raids have been conducted in the district during which illegally stored LPG cylinders were seized and complaints lodged against those involved,” he said.

In one such case, officials acting on a tip-off raided a shed in Nanjangud Town and recovered domestic, commercial and small LPG cylinders. According to the complaint filed by Food Department, the shed was used as an illegal LPG filling unit where commercial cylinders were filled using domestic and small cylinders. On noticing the officials, two persons involved in the illegal activity fled the spot. Residents later informed the officials that the unit was run by two persons identified as Fajeel and Charlie.

The officials seized the cylinders and related equipment and lodged a complaint with Nanjangud Police, who have registered an FIR and are investigating the case.

In another raid, the Department officials searched a house belonging to one Swamy at Huyilalu village in Yelwal and recovered several illegally stored empty LPG cylinders. A complaint has been lodged at Yelwal Police Station in this regard.
