Are these the right saplings to be planted on median?

November 3, 2020

Are these saplings planted on the median between Vontikoppal Temple Circle and DRM Hospital the right saplings to be planted on road medians? One of SOM readers, who has sent the photo, says that these saplings when fully grown mars the vision of motorists coming on the other side which may lead to accidents. He says that plants planted on medians should not grow tall and should be not more than 3 ft. tall to allow motorists to see on-coming vehicles on the other side of the road while taking a turn. Also, a few members of the public stated that once the saplings grow tall, they would be cut by miscreants or will be removed by the authorities concerned for causing obstruction to motorists and added, why give life and then take it later. The public have urged the authorities concerned to take steps to replant the saplings on roadsides as they can grow tall and give shade and shelter.
