Mysore/Mysuru: Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII), in collaboration with JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), had jointly organised an online event for the inauguration of ‘Arogyakara Mane,’ a homecare programme for mild and moderate COVID-19 patients recently. 

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. K.H. Prasad, Pro Chancellor of JSS AHER Dr. B. Suresh and JSS Medical College Principal Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa were the chief guest at the inauguration event. The chief guests addressed the participants on the importance of preparing for surges in the COVID-19 pandemic and the partnership between PHRII and JSS AHER.

This homecare programme has been developed to help families prepare for the third wave of the pandemic and community members would be trained to assess COVID-19 patients at home, monitor their symptoms and screen them for mental health issues. The aim of this programme is to educate the caretakers of patients and children in affected homes regarding the importance and methods of preventing this disease. 

Telemedicine consultations will also be provided by physicians at PHRII and JSS Hospital for up to 14 days or until requirement of hospital admission. The programme will be initially launched in six slums in Mysuru city and will be expanded throughout Mysuru district wherever support is needed.
