Arrange vaccination for immobile citizens category

May 27, 2021

Sir,

This has reference to the letter on drive-in or door-to-door vaccination drive by D.V. Mohanprakash (SOM dated May 11).

While his suggestion was to avoid overcrowding in vaccination centres (now that it is open for all age groups above 18 years), this arrangement will in a great way also help the elderly citizens who are not very mobile.

Ever since the vaccination drive started in India for 60 years and above, I have been seeking help to get my elderly (octogenarian and septuagenarian) parents vaccinated, but it seems the Government has not considered citizens in this category who are totally immobile or have other genuine difficulties to reach to a hospital to have the shots.

Enquiries with old age homes also unfortunately gave negative results. Considering that this group is the most vulnerable with compromised immunity and co-morbidities, it will do good for the District Administration to make some arrangement to protect them.

While they are certainly not the vibrant community for the nation, they are still the loved parents of many of us and we cannot compromise them at any cost.

I hope we will have the District Administration or the MCC look into this request favourably, at the earliest possible.
