Articulate Dance Festival at Ganabharathi on May 20

Mysuru: Articulate Festival, coordinated by Mysore B. Nagaraj, is conducted on 3rd Sunday of every Month, in city. Accomplished Indian Classical dancers both from India and abroad take part in this festival.

On Sunday, the 20th May, in its 24th series, artistes are scheduled to perform in Kathak, Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam starting at 6 pm at Veene Seshanna Bhavan (Ganabharathi), Kuvempunagar. Entry is free.

This series presents Amita Mathur in a solo Kathak, Akhila Deepak in a solo Kuchipudi while two duet formats in Bharatanatyam will be presented by Shwetha – Sindu Purohit and Anjali Srikant – Neethu Anand. For details, contact Festival Co-ordinator on Mob: 93412-88391.

PROFILES

Anjali Srikant Iyengar is trained in Bharatanatyam and  Kuchipudi, by Guru Dr. Sanjay Shantaram and had her “Arangetrum” in the year 2008.  She completed her senior dance exams with distinction. She was part of the Indian Cultural exchange programme to Colombo and Malaysia. She has travelled to USA, Singapore and Australia. She has been awarded the title ‘Natya Mayuri’ and is a graded artiste of DD, Bengaluru.

Neethu Anand began her training under Guru Deepthi Mukund and under Guru Dr. Sanjay Shantaram of Shivapriya School of Dance in both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. She had her ‘Arangetrum’ in 2013. Neethu has performed in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bahrain and Australia as part of cultural exchange.  

Shwetha and Sindhu K. Purohit commenced training in  Bharatanatyam under Guru Meera and their dance skills under Shantala awardee, Karnataka Kala Tilaka Radha Sridhar of Venkatesha Natya Mandira. The Purohit sisters accomplished their Rangapravesham in  2011.

While Shwetha finished Vidwat grade exam with distinction, Sindhu completed Pre-Vidwat conducted by KSEEB. Shwetha is pursuing MFA from Sastra University, Thanjavur, under the guidance of Dr. Padma Subramanyam while both are training themselves in  Karnatak Music under Guru Vijaya Venkatesh.

Shwetha is a recipient of State scholarship by Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Kala Academy. Both are graded artiste of DD and are honoured with Arunodaya Kalpavruksha Award and Aryabhata Award. Together they run a dance school ‘Swaraat.’

Akhila Deepak had her Kuchipudi training under Karnataka Kalasri Guru Lakshmi Rajamani, founder of Lakshmi Kuchipudi Centre, Bengaluru, in Vedantam Style. She has been intensely trained in signature repertoire that includes “Bhaama Kalaapam” , “Golla Kalaapam”  and “Kuchipudi Yakshaganam.” An auditioned artiste at DD, she has completed Vidwat level and has started a Kuchipudi dance school ‘Nritya Kuteera’ and a dance troupe ‘Jhenkara.’

Amita Mathur, trained in Kathak  under Guru Nirupama Rajendra, has furthered her training under Pt. Shri Birju Maharaji, Dr. Maya Rao, Sohini Debnath, Prashant Shah and Vaishali Trivedi in workshops. She has also got special training on rhythm by Guru Mrudul Mukhopadyaya. She has performed in major Dance Festivals across the country winning accolades.
