‘Artificial Intelligence need of the hour for Indian education system’

January 1, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Karnataka State Higher Education Council Vice-President Prof. S.R. Niranjana has opined, “Indian Education System must adopt all modern technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI).”

Prof. Niranjana was speaking at an international conference about changes needed for sustained development as per global model, organised at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU)’s Kaveri auditorium, on Vinoba Road in the city, recently.

Advocating a complete overhaul of Indian education system to meet global standards, Prof. Niranjana said that it is essential to effect total changes in our system right from primary education to higher education. This will enable our children to thrive in the present competitive world, he added.

“Today countries like USA, England and others are at the forefront of the Global Knowledge Index and compared to these countries, India is way behind. Hence, it is very essential for Indian Education System to adopt modern technologies including AI and lay more emphasis on research,” said                                            Prof. Niranjana.

Stating that our students lack communication, problem solving attitude, management and other skills,  Prof. Niranjana said that the lack of these qualities is restraining them from showcasing their talents.

“Under these circumstances, about 13 lakh youths have migrated to foreign countries in 2022 to pursue higher education and better employment opportunities and the number is expected to increase by another 18 lakh in 2024. This will be a loss to knowledge of our country and will naturally have a bearing on the development of India. Even the investment of the Government will go waste,” concluded Prof. Niranjana.

KSOU VC Prof. Sharanappa V. Halse, Registrar Prof. K.L.N. Murthy, Organising Secretary of the Conference Dr. R.H. Pavitra, American University of Kuwait’s Prof. Ralph Palliam, Iran’s Azad Avaaz University Professor Cyrus Jhaboli, University of Mysore Professor of Economics Dr. K. Shivachittappa were present at the seminar.
