May 9, 2017

The Indian men’s boxing team ended the Asian Boxing Championship as joint third with Mongolia by winning a total of four medals including two silver and two bronze medals at the championship which concluded at Uzbekistan on Sunday (May 7). Coach C.A. Kuttappa, who has been training Shiva for the last five years, was happy with the performance. He said had it not been for a cut below his eyebrow he would have clinched the gold. “However, the focus now shifts towards the World Championship and we’ll make sure that the India wins maximum medals”, he said.

Though, India ended third in overall medal tally, the good news is that seven Indian boxers have got a berth to the World Boxing Championship. Besides the four medalists, others who have qualified include Kavinder Bisht (52 kg), Manoj Kumar (69 kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg).
