Sir,
The Ashokapuram Railway Station in Mysuru, which is now the starting and terminating point for many trains, was supposedly developed to ease congestion at the main City Railway Station and improve passenger access.
However, many people we spoke to did not recommend the station for ease of access. It was only when we reached the station to board the 4.45 am Chennai Express that we realised the train was stationed on the middle platform and passengers had to climb the stairs and descend again to reach it.
With no lifts in place, the hardship faced by elderly passengers, women and children carrying luggage is difficult to describe.
It is a shame that the South Western Railway (SWR), which has reported profits running into crores of rupees, did not have the foresight to provide lift facilities while introducing so many important trains from the station.
As for our political leaders, who lined up for photo opportunities at the inauguration to claim credit without considering passenger convenience, the less said the better. One hopes that steps will be taken soon to provide lift services at the station.
