Maramada Machamma Ponnappa, a resident of Hudikeri in South Kodagu, won the gold medal in the recently concluded Asian Masters Athletic Championships at Rugao, China. The Shot Put event, held in open category, witnessed 23 athletes taking part in the finals.

She had also represented the country in the International Masters Athletic Meet held in Thailand during March, this year. Machamma, daughter of Kuttanchettira Nanjunda and Kamavva, is married to Maramada Ponnappa.

She is a retired BSNL employee. She has been awarded with Kittur Rani Chennamma among others.
