Following the assault on MCC Ward No. 36 Corporator Prashant Gowda on Thursday evening, the residents of the Ward observed bandh yesterday.
All commercial establishments, coming under the Ward, downed the shutters voluntarily supporting the bandh and condemned the assault on the Corporator.
Prashanth, who reached the spot on receiving information that the residents had declared a bandh, urged them to open their shops and not to cause inconvenience to others, following which the shopkeepers opened their shops and conducted business as usual.
He later visited the Bhyrava Temple and held discussions with the residents and threatened of intensifying the agitation if no action was taken against the culprits.
It may be recalled that businessman Bodaram and his children Babulal, Ramesh, Jagan, Kailash and Vikram, had constructed a compound on a piece of land near Tripura Bhyrava Temple in Shivarampet and was using the place as a godown.
As the compound was on the verge of collapsing, the MCC has issued notices to demolish the compound as it may fall and cause injuries to the public.
As no action was taken in this regard, Corporator Prashanth Gowda led a team of MCC officials and with Police security, got the compound demolished on Thursday morning which led to a wordy duel between the businessman and the Corporator.
On Thursday night, the businessman, along with his sons, confronted Prashanth Gowda leading to heated exchange of words following which Bodaram and his sons allegedly assaulted the Corporator.
The Corporator said that the Devaraja Police have taken Bodaram and three of his sons into custody and have launched a hunt to trace the other three sons of Bodaram.
Two accused granted bail
Meanwhile, the Fourth JMFC Court Judge Deepa G. Maneyakkar yesterday granted bail to Kailash and Ramesh, sons of Bodaram, who are among the six accused in assaulting the Corporator. Advocate B.R. Dinesh argued in favour of the accused.
Advocates M. Ramakrishna and P. Prasanna also presented their arguments.
Devaraja Police Inspector S. Nagesh, who is investigating the case, has launched a hunt to nab the remaining accused who are absconding.
