Assault on Traffic Police at Hinkal: Police team formed to nab absconding accused

Mysore/Mysuru: A Police team, comprising five Police personnel and headed by Vijayanagar Inspector Balakrishna, has been formed to nab those involved in the assault on Traffic Police personnel and damaging the Police vehicle on Monday evening following an accident in which a two-wheeler rider was killed and pillion rider sustained injuries after a tipper vehicle ran over them.

Following the assault on the Cops, Vijayanagar Police, based on the videos of assault captured by the public gathered at the spot, which went viral on social media, have arrested 13 persons and are on a look out for others involved in the assault who are absconding fearing arrests. A few of them have also switched off their mobile phones and have vacated their houses too.

Help from informants

The Police have sought the help of their informants to search the addresses and phone numbers of those seen assaulting the Police in the videos. The Police have come to know that a majority of the assaulters were from Bogadi, Maratikyathanahalli, Hootagalli, Koorgalli, Belavadi, Basavanahalli and Yelwal hobli and have sought the help of the villagers, who are in opposition or against them.

Rowdy Sheet files to be opened

The Police are all set to open rowdy sheet files against the accused who had assaulted the Police and damaged the Police vehicle and are also registering cases of riots, assault, attempt to murder, preventing Government servant from performing duty and disruption of traffic among others.

Search for accused at nights

Based on the information from their informants, the Police in mufti are all set to conduct searches after 10 pm at abandoned houses in city outskirts, dhabas, resorts and lonely houses. The Cops are keeping a hawk-eye vigil on the houses of relatives and friends of the suspects and have begun searching for them at theatres and lodges.

Tower location

The mobile phone numbers of the suspects have been collected by the Police and they are seeking the help of tower locations technology to trace the location of those involved in the assault. Sources said that as a few suspects have switched off their mobile phones, it is difficult to trace their present location.

List of traffic violation cases on two-wheelers

The Police have announced the list of traffic violation cases registered against the two-wheelers of the seven accused who are arrested. 

Srikanth (KA-09-ER-2177) – 68 cases; Raghu (KA-09-EW-3142) – 21 cases; Mariswamy (KA-55-EA-8269) – 5 cases; Venkatesh (KA-09-HU-8994) – 4 cases; Somashekar (KA-55-0889) – 2 cases; Swamy (KA-09-HR-4616) – 2 cases and Mohan (KA-04-HW-6352) – one case.

Provide us information on absconding accused

Vijayanagar Inspector Balakrishna has urged the public to provide information of those involved in the assault on Traffic Police.

To prevent innocent people from getting caught in riot case and also to prevent the real accused from escaping, phone numbers and addresses of those seen in the videos which are doing rounds on social media, are being sought from the public, the Inspector said and added that the names of those providing information about the suspects would be kept               confidential.

Those having any information about those involved in assaulting the Police and are now absconding, may call Mob: 94808-02241, Inspector Balakrishna has urged.
