Athletes excel in sports meet

Various sports-persons have excelled in the athletics events of CM Cup Dasara Sports Meet,  organised as part of Dasara festival at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad here.

The athletics events included high jump, long jump, discus throw, shot put, running race etc., in both men and women categories.

In the high jump event for women, Pallavi Patil of Belagavi and N. Pavana of Bengaluru, recorded a jump of 1.67 mts. But the judges declared Pallavi of Belagavi as the gold medal winner as she achieved the feat in lesser attempts and fewer faults than her rival Pavana, who had to be satisfied with the silver medal. Flarvisha Velisha Montero of Dakshina Kannada district was declared the bronze medal winner with a jump of 1.64 mts.

Pavana of Bengaluru, however made up in another event, by winning the gold medal in long jump. She jumped a length of 6.10 mts. V.S. Sridevika came second by jumping 5.94 mts. Akshatha bagged the bronze medal by recording a length of 5.45 mts.

In the 800 mts. running race event for men, K. Surya of Bengaluru division came first and won the gold medal by clocking a time of 2:07.47 (2 minutes and 7.47 seconds). Rahul Choudhry came second and Kamal Kannan came third in the event.

In the 5,000 mts. running race for men, Vaibhav Murthy Patil came first by clocking a time of 15:17.24, followed by A.R. Rohit in the second place and Guruprasad in the third.

In the shot put event, S.R. Rahul Kashyap came first by recording a distance of 16.45 mts, followed by Prajwal M. Shetty in the second place and B. Manush in the third place.

In the women’s 800 mts. running race, Vijayakumari came first clocking 2:10.46, bagging the gold medal. She was followed by Arpita in the second place and Deepashri in the third place.

In the javelin throw event, S. Karishma came first recording a distance of 52.07 mts. She was followed by Shravya in the second place and Nidhi M. Shetty in the third place.

In the 5,000 mts. running race for women, Chaitra bagged the gold medal by clocking 18:24.44. She was followed by N.L. Tejaswi in the second place and Shaheen Shamsuddin in the third place.
