ATI conducts workshop on Flood Management

Mysuru: The Centre for Disaster Management, ATI (Administrative Training Institute) had organised a five-day workshop on “Main-streaming Flood and Landslide Resilience: Planning and Practices,” at its premises here recently.  

Course Director Dr. Ashok Sanganal made participants aware about basic concepts of disaster risk reduction in flood risk management, reasons for landslide,  flood forecasting and early warning system, role and responsibility of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs), District Disaster Management Authority, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) as per the provisions of Disaster Management Act-2005.  

As part of training, about 30 Officers from different Departments were taken to Madikeri, to conduct a study on current status of the flood and landslide affected areas and houses being built for the flood and landslide victims. 

During the study, participants were able to discuss with the Nodal Officer Samshuddin of the Kodagu District Administration about the role of the administration.  Along with Nodal Officer, the participants visited rehabilitation sites at Karnangeri, Madenadu, Jambur and discussed about the quality of houses. The participants asked officials about mitigation measures to be taken by District Administration and submitted a report at the end.  

The main objective of this programme was to train Officers, who are likely to be involved in the landslide and flood disaster management activities, according to a press release from ATI.
