Attempt to loot motorists on Ring Road: Illegal Bangladeshi migrant among five sentenced to jail

Mysuru:  The city’s Third Additional Sessions Court has sentenced five persons including an illegal migrant from Bangladesh to imprisonment for attempting to loot motorists on the Ring Road here.

Those sentenced to jail have been identified as 49-year-old Mohammed Ilyas of Shafichor village, Madaripur district in Bangladesh, 24-year-old Kaalukha of Shanpukor, Nadia district in West Bengal, 22-year-old Mithun Torabdhar of Chujadana, 28-year-old Julie Robel of Chuvadanga village and 25-year-old Paki, resident of Nizamudin Mogul Bazar Nalipal in Delhi.

The Court has acquitted Sikandar, Sabir Khan and Dilwar Khan, who were held as accused in the case.

In the wee hours of Aug.20, 2016, a gang of eight persons were waiting to loot motorists at the Under-Bridge near Unnathinagar in city. Acting on a tip off, N.R. Inspector T. Ashok Kumar and staff raided the spot and arrested all the eight persons along with lethal weapons and subjected them to interrogation, during which the accused have said to have confessed of planning to loot motorists by waylaying them on the Ring Road.

The Police, who registered a case in this regard, conducted investigation and submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the Court.

Third Additional Sessions Court Judge S. Sudendra, who heard the arguments, found Ilyas of planning the crime and sentenced him to three years imprisonment and Rs.2,000 fine and also sentenced the other four accused to three years jail and Rs.1,000 fine each.

Public Prosecutor Vasanthi M. Angadi argued on behalf of the Government.
