Auto drivers air grievances at awareness programme on traffic rules

December 24, 2017

Mysuru:  As part of ‘Crime Prevention Month’ programme, the City Traffic Police had organised an awareness programme on traffic rules at the premises of Devaraja Traffic Police Station recently.

Public and auto drivers who participated in the programme aired their grievances.

Auto driver Javed alleged that vehicles of cab aggregator Ola block the passage near the pre-paid auto stand near City Railway Station hampering the movement of regular autos and sought a remedy or even to do away with the pre-paid system.

Manukumar appealed to deploy a traffic constable near Sumangali Silks in the evenings as vehicular movement would be too much. A few auto drivers complained that traffic Police take photographs from behind an auto when they had to inevitably stop near no-parking zones to enable passengers to alight.

Giving a patient hearing to the grievances Devaraja Traffic Police Inspector L. Srinivas assured to address them.

He assured to recommend MCC to provide space near Olympia Theatre and City Bus Stand to set up auto stands. He also assured to groom the cops to be polite with auto drivers. He appealed people to follow traffic rules and not to ride or drive in drunken state.

Many participants complained that many auto drivers do not have driving licence or any document. They also complained of drivers fleecing passengers even at pre-paid auto stands.
