This refers to the recent letters by Prof. B. S. Shankara and Dr. S.V.N. Vijayendra about the urgency to install automatic street light controllers in city. I strongly support their views and urge the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to take up this project as early as possible.

I recall that MCC was approached by a private company more than two decades ago on the same subject but nothing progressed later. This was based on Jaipur Municipality implementing automatic street light controllers on a pilot scheme basis in 1996-97 and based on its success, extended the system to other towns as well.

 In Jaipur, this system was known as Dusk Dawn Switching System (DDSS) and solar-based power was supplied to the electronic system.

Presently, more advanced systems are surely available in the country and MCC can think seriously on the recommendations made by the two concerned citizens.
