Avoid hot food in plastic bags

July 16, 2023

Sir,

Apropos the letter titled “Four ‘R’ formula to save our environment” by H.S. Shivaram in SOM on June 2, it is very well mentioned to save our environment.

The author has mentioned about importance of carrying suitable boxes, container to bring home food items from hotels, eateries. In this regard I want to add some more points.

It is commonly seen near hospitals where people carry hot tea, coffee, milk, rice and curries in plastic bags from nearby hotels without thinking anything about their health.

When hot food is packed in plastic, chemical exchange between plastic and food will take place with high temperature.

These plastic bags contain Polyethylene, Polyvinyl Chloride, Polystyrene and Bisphenol which can cause cancer, heart diseases, kidney problems and reproductive problems.

So kindly avoid carrying of hot food items in plastic bags.
