Mysuru: Hoysala Kannada Sangha and Savigannada Pathrika Balaga in association with Sri Mahajana Sabha had organised ‘Kavya Dasara’, a poets meet and awards presentation ceremony recently at Sri Rama Mandira in Krishnamurthypuram here.
Inaugurating the programme, Natyacharya Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao advised poets not to write poems sitting in ivory tower but instead get into the skin of the society and compose poems to reach the masses. He appreciated the organisers in identifying talents and honouring them but advised the achievers to become more responsible on receiving the awards.
Presiding over the programme Retired Sanskrit Professor and Senior writer Prof. K.R. Premaleela opined that a poem should evoke emotions with minimum usage of words and added that poets should make an in-depth study of a subject before composing a meaningful poem.
‘Dr. D.L. Vijayakumari Memorial Sahitya’ award was conferred on Science writer G.V. Nirmala of Bengaluru while ‘Dasara Kavi’ award on Dr. Sukanya Soonagahalli and Kerodi Lolakshi.
‘Dasara Young Talent’ award was given to Apoorva Jain; ‘Savigannada Samskrutika’ award to achievers Anurag Basavaraj, Dr. S. Srinivas Shetty, S. Sathyaprasad, S.Niranjan Kumar, Mirle Chandrashekar, Sougandhika Jois and Padmashri Ravishankar.
Senior artist K.B. Kamalakshi distributed prizes to winning children in Dasara drawing contest.
Journalist Ranganath delivered the keynote address. Sri Ilai Alwar Swamiji of Melukote Vangipura Nambhi Mutt graced the occasion.
Hoysala Kannada Sangha President Maddikere Gopal, noted litterateur Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar (CPK), Dr. K. Anantharamu, Prof. K. Bhyravamurthy, Nagalakshmi Harihareshwara, B.P. Ashwathnarayan, Social Activist K. Raghuram and others were present a the programme.
Over 30 poets recited poems composed by them, according to a press release.
