Badminton Player M. Raghu

Badminton is a very popular sport in the world sporting scene and India has been faring well in the International circuit in this sport.

Our city’s M. Raghu is a talented player who has been performing well in the State and National-level. He also took part in the Danish League in Denmark and has gained valuable exposure. Raghu recently won the Men’s Singles title in the Yonex Sunrise State Ranking Badminton Tournament at KBA, Bengaluru. He is our ‘Star This Week.’

Seeded second, Raghu shocked the top-seed Hemantha M. Gowda 21-14, 21-17 to clinch the title. Raghu played an attacking game on both the flanks, combined it with deft placings near the net and scored an upset win over the top-seed. In the semi-finals, Raghu got the better of Anirudh Satish 21-12, 21-12 to enter the title round.

The 21-year-old earlier was one of the top juniors in the State and has progressed well into the senior ranks. He is presently ranked 304th in the World and has 19 career wins in the Men’s Singles event.

He takes part in the Danish Badminton Circuit in Denmark and has gained valuable exposure in the International level.

Raghu had entered the semi-finals in the Junior Nationals in Udupi and has won many Singles and Doubles titles in the U-19 levels in the State. Raghu won the Doubles title in the R. Subbanna Memorial Yonex Karnataka State Badminton Championships and State Badminton Championships conducted by White Peacock Academy, Bengaluru in the U-19 level.

Encouraged by his parents, coach, Mysore District Badminton Association and Karnataka Badminton Association, Raghu has been making steady progress in the sport and has the talent in him to reach greater heights in the days to come.
