Mysuru: The three-day State-Level Art camp organised as part of  Bahuroopi National Theatre Festival – 2018, began at Rangayana this morning.

Inaugurating the art camp, C. Chandrashekar, former Chairman of Karnataka Lalithakala Academy said that it was important for an artist to have a good experience of life to create great works and to explore the world.

He added that artists need to update themselves on latest developments.

Speaking about ‘Migration’  the theme for this year’s Bahuroopi, Chandrashekar said earlier, there were only instances of birds migrating for breeding and in search of food and later people started migrating in search of employment.

“It is always a great advantage for an artist to have an experience of migration as it would bring out new ideas and thoughts to create good art work,” he said.

Rangayana has invited 10 artists ­— Prakash Naik (Sirsi), Somasundar Murthy (Mysuru), Niranjana Makali (Ballari), Aiyaz Patel (Vijayapura), Tarakeshwari (Bengaluru), H. Shivakumar (Mandya), Durgesh Maratagera (Raichur), Santosh Kumar Chikkanna (Bidar), G. Naveen (Udupi) and Uma Patel (Bengaluru) — for the camp.

The artists have been provided with all required materials  including canvas to create two different art works. They will also be given an honorarium of Rs. 15,000 each by Rangayana.

Meanwhile, workers and artistes at Rangayana have been working to beautify the repertory premises for the theatre fest.

The stalls for the book and handicraft exhibitions have been erected to ensure they are ready for the inauguration of Bahuroopi scheduled on Jan. 14. There will be a total of 18 book stalls, 18 handicraft stalls and about 12 food stalls at the venue.

The main entrance of Rangayana is also being decorated with a welcome arch facing Vinoba Road. For the benefit of theatre buffs, Rangayana has installed a big display board of events and programmes near the reception counter.

This year’s Bahuroopi National Theatre Festival will be inaugurated by Jnanpith Awardee Girish Karnad on Jan. 14 at  5.30 pm at Vanaranga.
