Colours play a vital role in the design and energy flow and Feng Shui emphasises on the choice of correct colours to create right harmony.

Colours can be broadly classified as Yin and Yang based on the hues, shades and the Feng Shui element it symbolises. Colours in the science of Feng Shui have a lot to do with the direction which the building faces. There are different colours that Feng Shui defines for the use in exterior facades of your house and also for the interior colours. A proper choice of colours and a mix and match not only enhances the beauty of the home but it also generates the right energy and feel good factor.

If for example the building faces South which means it is sitting North and North represents water element in Feng Shui hence a choice of colour in the family of white, grey or blue enhances the flow of Chi. If say the building is facing East which means it is sitting West and West represents Metal element a good choice of colour would be earth tones, Pale Yellow or metal tones for enhancing the positive energies of the house.

Plant sprouting out of earth raises upwards, hence a small plant is Yin energy at inception and as point grows towards the sky, the energy gets diffused and dissipated. Yin colours according to Feng Shui are the colours that bring about healing and relaxation, hence Yin energies can be classified in terms of colours as shades of blue, black, green etc.

  • The colour Purple is excellent for physical and mental healing and Feng Shui associates it with spiritual awareness and awakening.
  • Colour Blue is the colour of the sea and sky, Feng Shui associates it with adventure and exploration. Navy blue is the colour of intellect and wisdom.
  • The colours gold or silver is said to generate a calm Chi or atmosphere.
  • On the other hand, Yang colours are those which signify fire and wood elements. Feng Shui propagates that these are the colours that provide enthusiasm, positive energy required to do something and be motivated.
  • The colours Yellow & Red represents sunbeams, warmth, motion, cheerfulness and friendliness.
  • The colour orange signifies for Feng Shui practice as it strengthens your concentration.
  • Apart from the above, colours like Tan, Brown, Red, Beige Maroon Lilac and gold symbolises money, luck and relationship

In the science of Feng Shui, colours play a meaningful role and its essential to understand the purpose of moderating or tweaking the colours based on the needs and application in a home or office.

Choosing the right combination of colours ensures that the Feng Shui of the space is in balance and also it aids in activating prosperity and in some cases it also helps in countering Feng Shui afflictions.
