Ballari District Government Hospital: Panel finds sub-standard IV fluid reason for 5 women’s death

November 30, 2024

Ballari: The death of five women in post-partum period at the District Government Hospital, within a short span of 15 days is attributed to the substandard Intravenous (IV) fluid (Glucose) that was administered to them during the delivery through C-section (Cesarean).

As the news of frequent deaths of women after delivering babies at the District Hospital here hogged limelight, leading to a huge debate, the State Health and Family Welfare Department, that took note of the situation, had formed a Expert Committee of three doctors to find out the reasons behind the series  of deaths.

The Committee, including Dr. Savitha, Dr. Bhaskar and Dr. Harsha, had conducted the probe and submitted a report to the Government, with accurate findings related to sub-standard IV fluid that caused the death of women.

On the other hand, the State Health and Family Welfare Department has directed all the Government Hospitals to not to use IV fluids for now.

It may be mentioned that, seven women who had delivered babies, had experienced sudden complications in their health condition on Nov. 7. Five of them died within 15 days of their deteriorating health condition, triggering a huge debate in the State.
