Chitradurga: In yet another honour for late Sandalwood actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who passed away recently, Chitradurga-based Murugha Mutt will confer ‘Basava Shree’ award posthumously on the actor.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Murugha Mutt Pontiff Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana said that the award will be posthumously conferred on Puneeth Rajkumar marking Basava Jayanti next year.

Pointing out that Puneeth had made a significant contribution to Kannada cinema as a child artiste, hero, singer and producer, he said that the late actor was part of many social campaigns. Puneeth was selected for the award for his service to society and charity works. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh and a citation. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Pontiff will visit the residence of Puneeth Rajkumar in Bengaluru on Nov.10 and offer his condolences to the bereaved family.
