Basic humanity and goodness of people

August 16, 2019

Sir,

On July 30 (Tuesday), we answered our door bell to see three people helping my elderly father out of a car, blood dripping on his clothes from wounds on his forehead and chin. My father was in shock and a little disoriented. We were very alarmed and horrified.

It appeared that my father had fallen when walking past the Shiva temple on Vishwamanava Double Road in Kuvempunagar.  He might have hit his head because he had a slight concussion and could not immediately remember where he was or what he was doing there.  But thankfully he was able to give his name and address to the kind strangers who stopped to help. They not only brought him home; they picked up his bag, his broken glasses, and ensured that his wallet and keys were intact.

I am deeply grateful to these three fellow citizens for bringing my father safely home. I have never met them before and I will likely not meet them again.   They did not know us and we did not know them. Out of kindness, concern and basic humanity they took the effort to find out who he was, where he lived, and brought him home.

In our initial alarm we neglected to ask for their contact information, so I am unable to express my gratitude to them personally. But I wanted to share the tale of these three Good Samaritans with the rest of Mysuru. At unexpected times we are reminded about the inherent goodness of people. My father is recovering well and I daily express my gratitude to the trio.
