Battery thefts: One arrested, batteries worth lakhs of rupees recovered

Periyapatna: Periyapatna Police have arrested a man on charges of stealing batteries from a shop and have recovered batteries worth Rs. 6 lakh besides seizing a goods auto from the accused, said Additional SP (ASP) Dr. Nandini.

Addressing a press meet at Periyapatna Police Station, the ASP said that the accused has been identified as 44-year-old Sameer Ahmed, a resident of Tanveer Sait Nagar in Mysuru and added that on the night of Dec. 25, accused Sammer had broke into S. Auto Electricals on B.M. Road in the town and had stolen batteries of various companies including Exide and Amaron worth lakhs of rupees in a goods auto.

She further said that Sadiq Ahmed, the owner of the shop had lodged a complaint and Periyapatna Police, who had registered a case, took up the investigation, collected footages of CCTV cameras installed in the shop and were successful in arresting the accused.

During interrogation, the Police came to know that the accused was involved in six cases in Periyapatna, Nanjangud, K.R. Nagar, Malavalli, Kushalnagar and Mysuru.
