A well-compiled unbeaten century by opener Siddesh Wath (126 n.o., 115b,16×4, 2×6) and his valuable unfinished 195-run fourth wicket partnership with Mohit Kale (73 n.o., 99b, 7×4), enabled Vidarbha to register a well-earned seven-wicket win over Gujarat in the BCCI Men’s U-23 One-Day Tournament’s Plate ‘A’ Game played at the PET Grounds in Mandya yesterday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Gujarat, well-served by Rahul Vipul Shah (79, 109b, 4×4, 2×6), Karan Trivedi (47, 36b, 5×4, 1×6) and Saurav D. Chauhan (42, 71b, 5×4), posted a total of 220 for nine in 50 overs. Mohit Raut was impressive with figures of three for 24 for Vidarbha.
In reply, Vidarbha, after being 26 for three at one stage, recovered well through some responsible batting by Siddesh Wath and Mohit Kale to score 221 for three in 40 overs and register a facile seven-wicket win.
Karnataka lost to Punjab
A fine spell of bowling by Prerit Dutta (10-3-34-5), enabled Punjab to register a big 148-run win over hosts Karnataka at the SDNR Wadiyar Grounds. Put into bat, Punjab scored 256 for six in 50 overs.
Ramandeep H. Singh top scored with 77 n.o. (62b, 7×4, 4×6). Useful contributions came in from Mandeep Inder S.P. Bawa (52,107b, 4×4, 1×6), Mayank N. Sidhu (44, 55b, 4×4) and Arjun Vikas Verma (39, 54b, 4×4).
In reply, Karnataka’s batsman succumbed to the guile’s of Prerit Dutta (five for 34) and Abhinav Sharma (three for 18), and were bowled out for 108 in 36.1 overs. Punjab registered a big win. In the other game at JSS-SJCE Grounds, Baroda registered a three-wicket win over Madhya Pradesh.
