Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. Nagalakshmi Nagarajan, city’s noted Bharatanatyam teacher, performer and an entrepreneur who started the educational and cultural institution Champaka Academy two decades back, has made her debut as an author through her book “Bharatiya Nritya Jnanam (Pallava Edition) – Initiation to Indian Classical Dance of Bharatanatyam.”
The book was released by her Guru Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy in the presence of art patron Dr. C.G. Narasimhan (Sr. Surgeon), Dr. K. Kumar (Founder-Secretary, Kumar Performing Arts Centre) and Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao (Director, Noopura Trust) during Vasundharotsava held at Vasundhara Bhavana in Saraswathipuram recently.
This book is meant to help students and teachers of Bharatanatyam navigate their understanding of the theoretical and practical foundations of the art and help them prepare for the various certificate courses offered by Gandharva Mahavidyala, Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University, S-VYASA University, Bangiya Sangeet Parishad (BSP) and others.
Foreword for the book has been penned by Dr. Vasudhara Doraswamy and Dr. H.V. Nagaraja Rao (Sanskrit Scholar) and printed by R. Vasudev Bhat of Ramya Creations.
Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy lauded Dr. Nagalakshmi’s effort to come up with this book embellished with deep theoretical and practical knowledge that she has gained over the past decades and opined that scores of students of Bharatanatyam would benefit from it.
Dr. Nagalakshmi said the next edition for higher levels of learning will be available next year.
