Bhavan’s Day: Veena concert and felicitation at Ganabharathi on Oct.26

Ganabharathi is celebrating the 28th Bhavan’s Day on Oct.26 at Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar at 5.30pm.  On the occasion, Ganabharathi will be felicitating art patron K.V. Murthy.

This will be followed by a Veena concert by Vid. Ramana Balachandran accompanied by Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. M.R. Manjunatha on ghata.

K.V. Murthy: Born to K. Bhagirathi and Kuskoor Krishnamurthy, K.V. Murthy is a well-known name in the circles of music and dance for having nurtured numerous organisations and sangeetha sabhas. Being an engineer and a industrialist, he has great concern for art, which he has proved by being instrumental in encouraging and bringing up numerous music sabhas in Mysuru.

Vid. Ramana Balachandran is a 16-year-old Vainika from Bengaluru. His talent for music was noticed when at a young age he could identify ragas and point out nuances. He has been performing from the age of 12. He started his vocal training under his mother Sharanya Balachandran. He then pursued Veena under Vidushi B. Nagalakshmi (grand-daughter of Karaikudi Subbarama Iyer) for a period of three years and continues under his father Balachandran. He currently learns vocal from Sangeetha Kala Acharya Neela Ramgopal and mridangam from Laya Kala Pratibha Mani Ranganatha Chakravarthy.

Ramana has performed over 250 solo Veena concerts in many leading sabhas. He has also been the youngest Vainika to have performed on many of those stages. A recipient  of CCRT National-level Scholarship, he has got numerous awards to his credit — “RBC Young Achiever Award for RY 2014-15”, “Smt Lalitha Padmanabhan Endowment” award for Veena by Narada Gana Sabha,  “Prof. G.T. Narayana Rao” award by Bhramara Trust of Y. T and Madhuri Thathachari, Granted age waiver by Prasar Bharati and Director General of AIR for audition appearance in AIR when he was 14, “Kalavanta,”  “Raga Laya Prabha” by Sri Rama Lalitha Kalamandira and Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship by Shanmukhananda Sabha.
