Valmiki Jayanti celebrations tomorrow

Mysuru:  The Valmiki Jayanti celebrations organised jointly by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of  Scheduled Tribe Welfare and Valmiki Jayanthyotsava Samithi, will be held on Oct.24 at 12 noon at Kalamandira in city.   

A procession carrying the portrait of Maharshi Valmiki on Addapallakki followed by folk troupes will be taken out from Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple after offering puja to Nandi Kambha at 10 am. Maharshi Valmiki Geetha Gayana programme will begin at Kalamandira at 10 am.

District Minister G. T. Devegowda will inaugurate. MLA L.Nagendra will preside. Assistant professor at Department of Psychiatry, Karnataka State Open University, Dr Manjunath will deliver the keynote address.

Tourism Minister S.R.Mahesh, Zilla Panchayat President Nayeema Sulthana, Members of Parliament Pratap Simha and R. Dhruvanarayan,  MLAs A.H.Vishwanath, Tanveer Sait, S. A. Ramdas, K. Mahadev, Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah, B. Harshavardhan, Anil Chikkamadu, Ashwin Kumar, MLCs R Dharmasena, K.T. Srikantegowda, K.V. Narayanaswamy, Taluk Panchayat President Kalamma Kemparamaiah and others will be chief guests.

In a press release, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar has appealed to all Taluk and District-level officials to take part in the celebrations without fail as public holiday was announced by the government.

In another press release, District Programme Coordinator of Comprehensive Tribal Development Scheme has also asked all District, Taluk-level Tribal Development Welfare Officers and other  staff to attend the programme in large numbers.

Kanakadasa Jayanti:  Meeting on Oct.28

The preliminary meeting to discuss preparations for 531st Kanakadasa Jayanti will be held on Oct.28 at 10 am at Sri Kaginele  Kanaka Gurupeetha Branch Mutt at Siddarthanagar in city. Former MLA M.K. Somashekhar will chair the meeting. Members of Santha Sri Kanakadasa Jayanthyotsava Samithi, elected representatives, leaders of the community will take part in the meeting, according to General Secretary of the Samithi Bank M. Puttaswamy.
