Accused is from Kengeri in Bengaluru; one more person absconding
Mysuru: An attempt to abduct a 21-year-old woman by two men was foiled by the public near ESI Hospital on KRS Road on Oct. 30. One of the suspects was caught and handed over to the Police, while the other escaped.
The incident occurred at around 2.30 am near a park adjacent to the hospital. Auto drivers and the public noticed the woman running and screaming, with two men chasing her. They rushed to her aid, after which one of the men fled and the other was caught.
When questioned, the detained man claimed that he had no connection with the woman and had been brought there for work. The woman alleged that they had abducted her. The suspect later claimed that a person named Aravind was behind the incident.
The public alerted the Police through the emergency helpline 112. The response team took the woman and the suspect to V.V. Puram Police Station. As the woman told the Police that she had been forcibly taken from Highway Circle, both were later shifted to Mandi Mohalla Police Station at around 5 am.
The woman said, she was staying at her aunt’s house in Bada Makhan and that her husband was in jail. She told the Police that she stayed indoors during the day and begged on the streets at night.
She was standing near Highway Circle when the two men forced her onto a motorcycle and took her away. She also has a three-year-old son, she said.
The accused identified himself as Pradeep, 24, a resident of Kengeri in Bengaluru. Police contacted his father, who told them that he had severed ties with his son.
Mandi Police registered an abduction case against Pradeep and Aravind. Efforts are underway to trace Aravind. The woman and her child have been shifted to her in-laws’ house.
Police tell distressed woman at 5 am, not our jurisdiction…
Acting on a call from the public, the 112 emergency team reached the park near ESI Hospital and took the woman and the detained suspect to V.V. Puram Police Station.
However, when the woman told the Police that she had been abducted from Highway Circle, the V.V. Puram Police said, the place fell outside their jurisdiction and sent both of them to Mandi Mohalla Police Station at around 5 am.
Interestingly, the public had alerted 112 from near the park adjacent to ESI Hospital on Mysuru-KRS Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of V.V. Puram Police Station.
Despite the incident being reported from within their limits, the Police transferred the matter to another Station, resulting in the woman and the suspect being taken from one Police Station to another.
